Atlanta Celebrates Jamaica’s Golden Jubilee with gala affair!

The Atlanta Jamaican Association, Inc., (AJA) in collaboration with the Atlanta Jamaican Cultural and Educational Fund, Inc., will host the Annual Jamaican Independence Ball and Scholarship Awards on Saturday, August 18, 2012.

The Jamaican Independence Ball and Scholarship Awards is one of the pinnacle Caribbean events each summer in Metro Atlanta. In this historic year - the celebration of Jamaica’s 50th year of Independence, this will certainly be the “must-attend” event of the year.

This Golden Jubilee black-tie gala will be held at the luxurious Georgia International Convention Center (GICC), 2000 Convention Center Concourse, College Park, Georgia 30337 with cocktails beginning at 6pm.  The GICC is located minutes from the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Tickets can be purchased at various ticket outlets in Metro Atlanta, or by visiting the AJA’s website at www.ajaatlanta.org or by calling 404-556-3773; 404-219-4139 or 404-509-7160.  You can get more information by “friending” AJA on Facebook at: Atlanta Jamaican-Association (AJA).

Doctor Stephen Vasciannie - Jamaica’s Ambassador-Designate to the United States, will be the keynote speaker.   With his busy schedule relocating to the United States, Dr. Vasciannie graciously accepted AJA’s invitation to celebrate this very special occasion with the Jamaican community in Atlanta.  Dr. Vasciannie is a former Rhodes Scholar and professor at the University of the West Indies.
Live entertainment will be provided by the legendary Byron Lee’s Dragonaires. The band is best known for its popularization of the Jamaican Ska music internationally and its many Rocksteady, Reggae, Calypso and Soca hit songs.
For our out-of-town guests, there are several hotels within walking distance of the GICC.  The SpringHill Suites Marriott will be offering special rates for ball attendees.  For reservation, please call 1-888-287-8400 or visit the hotel’s website at www.marriott.com/springhill-suites.com.  Mention “AJA Room Block” for the special rate that will be available up to July 27, 2012.
Tickets to the ball are $95.00 per person.  Proceeds from this event will benefit the AJ Scholarship Fund and the many activities that the organization undertakes to help the less-fortunate in Metro Atlanta and Jamaica.
The Atlanta Jamaican Association, Inc. (AJA) founded in 1977, is a non-profit organization with 501© (4) status under the Internal Revenue Service Code.  The AJA provides support and aid to members of the Jamaican community in Metro Atlanta and Jamaica.  Through its Family Relations Committee, the AJA assists families in times of severe financial and emotional hardship.  It undertakes special missions to Jamaica annually to feed the poor and provide help to the most needy.  The AJA also strives to promote unity, friendship, and understanding between Jamaicans and other members of the greater Atlanta community.  The AJA’s Educational Fund provides scholarships to deserving students of Jamaican parentage.
